Being an Empire?

Prompt: Blog on Mailer

While reading "Why we are at War," a major question came to mind: Why on earth does Mailer feel that Bush is trying to build an empire?

I do not feel that Bush is trying to build an empire. Of course, all presidents want America to be in control of the world but I personally feel at Bush had to do what was right for America concerning the war in Iraq, it had nothing to do with building an empire. When America was attacked on September 11, I feel that the terrorist thought they won in the world. We, as Americans, had to show the world that we do not accept terrorism. I know that you can never stop terrorism from happening. In the world around us, there isn't alot of peace. I see a lot of violence and hatred in the world news.

Mailer also made the comment, "Can it be that George W. Bush knows what he's doing for the future of Empire by awarding these huge tax credits to the rich?" I do not agree with the tax credits that the rich receive, but I do not think that the purpose for these credits were to increase his chances of an Empire. I guess that I just do not see where Mailer can come to that conclusion.

There are several points made in reference to Bush trying to build an Empire. I do not feel that this is the case. I feel at Bush is trying to do everything in his power to keep America safe. And there he is trying to keep America the "Home of the free." We, as Americans, need to come together during this time of war and support each other and our president.
